You can still use Section 1 past papers to practise, but note that Section 1 no longer contains Data Analysis and Inference questions, in which a longer text is followed by a set of related questions. This document shows how BMAT tests taken between 2003-2008 convert to the new BMAT score.

The BMAT is by no means an easy exam, and a good score is achieved by getting roughly half of the questions right. With an exam that’s only two hours long, there is little margin for error, and due to the score conversions, losing just one or two marks due to silly mistakes may result in your point score reducing by 0.5.

Plan essay questions. One of the best ways to start your preparation for BMAT Section 3 is to look at essay questions from past papers. The questions take the form of a short quote or statement – most are scientific or medical. An example question is: “A little learning is a dangerous thing.” (Alexander Pope).
